Hi travellers,

Just bought a TomTom Go 720

worked fine til I plugged it into the computer with the USB dock, installed the software from the CD and, as instructed, downloaded the updated Version 7.221 software from Internet to the unit (which shipped both with V 7.010 something, and the CD which contained, as it turned out, V7.221). From that point onwards it will not boot up. I have:

reset the unit (still shows V 7.221), switched it off and on many times, docked it, ejected it (meticulously!), started it up undocked and docked. Now, it starts up with the little drum logo, does a scroll bar across the bottom about 80% of the way, then shows a flashing red circle with a white X in the middle. I have also installed the software on a Powerbook G4 and on an intel Imac. no difference.

I can access all the software in the dock but it will simply not boot.

I emailed TomTom both with the Feedback section and Contact Us section, nothing yet but robotized acknowledgements. Took it to Dick Smith, helpful chap sent it off and replaced it with a new unit in the meantime.

Unfortunately the replacement did the exact same thing.

When I finally fessed up that I was running it with a Mac I got the usual "Aaah, maybe that's it".

Problem is, I think he's right. Perhaps there is a bug and both the unit and the current software update is so new that there has not been a lot of complaining Mac Tomtom users yet. The CD version is the same as the current download version.

Does anyone have any tips? In particular anywhere I can download a "legacy" copy of the software to hopefully deglitch the device?

Thanks in advance for any help.

DD
