Hi Ken,
You cannot just "remove" QT as you have discovered.
Go to HD > Library > Receipts Folder and delete the Quicktime.pkg for
this upgrade.
Then download the full installer and see if you can install it again.

Have you tried creating a new administrator account and running the
install from there?
