I really thought I could hold out longer than this, but today I signed up with Optus for the iPhone. None in stock of course, but I was told they'll be available again for "signed-up" customers in "about a week". [not holding my breath on that!]

I went for the $19 cap plan and added the $14.95 Data Pack to give a total of 300MB/month. As a very low user of voice calls this seems the best value for me. The 16GB (black) iPhone costs $26/month on this cap plan. So a total monthly cost of $59.95. It seems expensive compared to my previous mobile phone costs, but the iPhone offers so much more.

I have only used pre-paid sims before so the monthly contract is all new to me. I checked out the pre-paid option as well but by the time you wanted data with the pre-paid it became more expensive than the capped plans.

Another vital point for me was the ability to unlock the iPhone which the website confirms is free of charge for iPhones on plans. I also confirmed the unlockability at the Optus store.

Thanks to the previous Wamug'ers who have explained their thoughts on the data usage of the iPhone, it helped me to make my decision.

Now the Long wait for my iPhone to arrive!

cheers
Jane
