Hi Stuart,
the GPS uses both satellite and phone tower triangulation.
If you are out in the sticks it will work without a phone tower.
THe difference is that in the city with both towers and satellites
the iPhone gets a quick approximate location within seconds and then
your position is refined by the GPS as the satellites are located.
Out in the sticks it just takes 30 sec to a minute for the GPS to
kick in. You don't get the almost instant approximate position given
to you by the phone towers.
Regards,
Eugene

Hi Muggers
There is nothing in the archives or in iPhone Central about this.
Does the iPhone have to be able to receive mobile phone calls for
the GPS to work? Or can the GSP work independently fro the mobile
phone?
