Can someone tell me what a big black exclamation mark means in iPhoto please

Hi Mac,

What version of iPhoto are you using?
The ! Or ? Turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.

If iPhoto '08:
Try rebuilding the database.
1. Quit iPhoto

2. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys and launch iPhoto.
Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

If iPhoto '09:
1. Quit iPhoto

2. Hold down the Option & Command Keys and click the iPhoto icon to open iPhoto.
A dialog appears, showing options for rebuilding your photo thumbnails.

3. Select one of the following checkboxes:

Rebuild the photos’ small thumbnails: This option rebuilds only the small versions of the thumbnails, such as those that appear in the photo browser when you are creating a book or slideshow.

Rebuild all the photos’ thumbnails: This option rebuilds all the thumbnails associated with a photo, including the small ones and the thumbnails that appear in a photo album or Event.

4. Click Rebuild.
Rebuilding the thumbnail cache may take several minutes.

Cheers,
Ronni
