Hello Severin
Third party software offers many advantages in this area. Two
products come to mind.
I use Vuescan and am very happy with it. Silverfast is also used by
many professionals. A little more complicated than Epson software at
first, but you get used to it.
There are free demos of both available.

My Epson perfection 3200 Photo scanner was bundled with Epson Copy
Utility which has been patched to 2.16A but is still 5 years out of
date. It works fine with Leopard and is most useful but it would
nice to modernise it. Though there is a lot of information out
there 2.16A seems to be the latest and Epson are very silent on this.
Has anyone anything to offer?
