Greetings All

My iMac, running 10.6.3, was doing some Software updates and advised that it 
needed to restart which I approved.    I can't get it to restart however and 
when I try to open the Finder I get a message 'The application Finder can't be 
opened - 10810'.    I cannot access my desktop either although I can use Apple 
Mail, Safari etc.   Any suggestions on what I should do now?
