Hi 

RAR are a compression format, same as ZIP.  The difference is that RAR will 
split the file into multiple parts for ease of transfer i.e. Bittorrent file, 
which if a part files you don't need to send the entire file again.

A program such as unRarX will join the files into one for you, unless the file 
name gives an indication.
