Thank you Eugene and Susan for your replies. They increased my interest in the iPad and so yesterday I visited the MAXstyle store in Myaree. A young man there gave me a comprehensive walk through of iPad 2. Very impressive - my resistance is weakening!

The Macintosh needs a USB port. The iPads port contains the USB pins in its
large port on the bottom so that the standard iPad cable will connect to the
Macintosh.

The standard cable will allow you to transfer documents also.

I am confused.
In the specifications for the iPad 2 it states:

Mac System Requirements (among other things):
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port

But the iPad 2 itself appears to have no USB port.

What information am I missing?
Can I transfer a document to my computer by means other than wireless or iPhone?
