Thanks Daniel,

I appreciate your input :o)
Sorry I’m only replying now. The last few days I’ve been working from 5:30AM to
Midnight each day.
I had to check to see if I was wearing “Daniel Kerr’s” Name Badge! ;-)

I asked John for more details of RAM & HD & Free space on HD so I could then
give perhaps 3 suggestions.

First Suggestion: Upgrade the PowerBook ‘Pismo’ to Tiger OSX 10.4 (which is
capable of running OS X 10.4.11
That is if he had enough RAM, Free space left on his HD and a Optical DVD
drive that is working.

I would have preferred he had at least 512MB or better 1GB RAM
BUT only having 2.38GB Free on the HD is probably not enough to do an “Archive
& Install” of Tiger.

If he could have upgraded to Tiger OS X 10.4 he could use Target Disk Mode &
Migration Assistant to bring his User Accounts etc over to the NEW iMac.

Second Suggestion: The same as yours below: Boot the Pismo into Firewire Target
Disk Mode and transfer his Data across.
Transfer his Home Folder and Files & Folders … but NO OS9 Applications.

Third Suggestion: Pay a Consultant to do the Transfer & Setup.
Purchase his iMac from say MacWizardry, pay the extra to have Daniel do the
“Transfer and Setup”.
Then it will be done correctly and cost John less in the long run.

I’ve had people try to do this themselves and experience trouble ‘manually’
transferring all their data across and into the correct locations in OS X
10.6.7. Then they have called me to “please come fix the mess” …
It is a tedious job, I know as I’ve done it for clients.

Cheers,
Ronni
