Hi Adrian, your friend could use YouSendit https://www.yousendit.com/ - it’s a free ftp service, if your friend zips all the files to be sent, they can upload the zip to the YouSendit site and enter the receiver's email address.
The recover then gets an email with a website link. They then click the link and can download the zip file From memory they can send up to 100Mb at no charge.
