This is not a trivial matter, and generally requires the user to get his/her fingers a little dirty with with some UNIX code. The degree of difficulty also depends on the version of Mac OS X you are running. It's MUCH easier in Snow Leopard and Lion than in in previous versions, but it still has to be tackled with care and a little reading before you start. Typing "change short user name os x" into Google revealed many answers. I include two of them, one a do-it-yourself solution, and the other a utility you can download to help. http://osxdaily.com/2011/05/20/change-short-name-user-mac-os-x/ http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/16620/changeshortname (software download) Peter Hinchliffe Apwin Computer Services FileMaker Pro Solutions Developer Perth, Western Australia Phone (618) 9332 6482 Mob 0403 046 948 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Mac because I prefer it -- Windows because I have to. -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - <http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml> Guidelines - <http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml> Settings & Unsubscribe - <http://lists.wamug.org.au/listinfo/wamug.org.au-wamug>
