My wireless g network seemed to have pretty low range (get 1 or 2 bars at the extremities of the house) and the neighbours are older more responsible looking people who would be very unlikely hackers but now you've mentioned it I realise I didn't consider the possibility of someone accessing my computer via a neighbours computer that could of been compromised.
I do use the firewall that comes with Mac OS. Thanks again for the advice.
