Hello, I have a home network that normally connects to the internet using Bigpond Cable. This has ceased functioning over the weekend and a tech is booked to come to check out the lines in 10 days time.
In the meantime, I have tethered the iPhone4 successfully using WiFi and alternatively via USB to my Mac Mini (10.7.3) to give my main working computer internet access. On request, Bigpond have increased my data allowance from 1Gb to 12Gb until the problem is resolved and will refund the extra fees. This part of things is working fine. But it does mean the other users in the house do not have internet connection. One of the other computers has WiFi - a G4 Powerbook, and another computer, a gaming PC, only has a wired ethernet connection available to it. I don't think the iPhone Hotspot will reach through the couple of walls to the WiFi on the Powerbook, and even if it does, it won't help the teenager on the gaming machine and he is the most disgruntled... yes, I think it will do him good to be cut off for a few days, although I'd hate to be cut off myself :-) Is there a way of tethering the iPhone so it will feed into the home network?? The home network is normally connected from the cable outlet via a Motorola Surfboard 5101 modem, into a SnapGear router which feeds the various computers via ethernet hard wired cable and a couple of ethernet switches to give me more outlets around the house. I have an Airport Extreme that provides the wireless internet throughout the house. Searching Apple support indicates this can't be done. Has anyone found a solution?
