Hi Stephen, /Quote: Apple's iTunes, App Store hit by 12-hour outage costing up to $32 million
Apple has restored service to its popular iTunes and app stores after a 12-hour global outage on Thursday. The widespread disruption in service was rare for Apple, but it still frustrated users around the world. Apple blamed the outage on an internal technical error. "The cause was an internal DNS error at Apple," said Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr. Four of Apple's major digital stores — iTunes, App Store, Mac App Store and the iBooks Store — were down, according to a status update on the company's website. Revenue from those stores and other services averages $US50 million ($65 million) a day, meaning up to $US25 million ($32m) was potentially lost. The outage came two days after the company held an event to promote the Apple Watch. "Customers may be unable to make purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store," a message on Apple's status page read. When attempting to make a purchase or download a free app, a message appeared stating users can't connect to iTunes. "We apologise to our customers experiencing problems with iTunes and other services this morning," Neumayr said in an emailed statement on Wednesday afternoon. "The cause was an internal DNS error at Apple. We're working to make all of the services available to customers as soon as possible, and we thank everyone for their patience."
