Also, if you would prefer not to restart the computer (maybe lots of other
things open/in progress), don't forget that you can just relaunch the
finder:

Apple menu/force quit - select finder from the list of open items and the
"Force Quit" button changes to a "Relaunch" button.

I have often found that this is enough to sort things if Finder is being a
little flakey.
