Hi Alan, What's happening is the router is dropping the connection to the Apple TV. The Apple TV sees that the connection has dropped and tries to reconnect but your router is still keeping the reservation from the first connection.
So the Apple TV tries to connect as whatever IP it has and tries to assign its Bonjour name. Since the router is still showing that IP as active, Bonjour sees a device called "Apple TV”. Since Bonjour devices have to be unique, it bumps up the name by adding an increment, in this case "Apple TV (2)" I would try shutting down and unplugging your AppleTV, while leaving it unplugged, reboot your Airport Router. Wait for full connectivity to come back to your network and then plug your AppleTV back in and boot it up. Rebooting of your Airport Router and Apple TV should clear this. - the airport routers cache information about bonjour names, which is also how, for example, they are able to act as a sleep proxy to do wireless wake on access for other apple products. Apple TV can be renamed in Settings under AirPlay > Apple TV Name.
