My son has a 13" Aluminium body MBP. It is a late 2011. The screen is dodgy in that it fades to a full white occasionally OR it has a grey shade the starts at the top and then passes fully to the bottom of the screen in about 5 seconds. If it is midway through either of these two phases, a simple tweak of the screen on its hinge seems to restore it all instantly to normal again. He is an obsesive 'screen closer' whenever he walks away from it - even mid backup! Oh well, he is 15 and they do things like that! As much as I try to coach him to allow a TM backup to finish whenever one is running.
It seems that it may be part of the hinge ribbon that has fatigued with the continual screen open/closing action. Is this an economic repair or one for the scrap?
