This is now a complex area. The general advice is against sharing your Apple ID
with anyone else, but you may have a need to share some features such as
contacts, etc. You can set up Family Sharing to deal with this, but I strongly
advise you to have a look at “Take Control of Your Apple ID” by Clenn
Felishman, from www.takecontrolbooks.com <http://www.takecontrolbooks.com/>.
These books are inexpensive and come in te form of eBooks and/or PDFs. This
particular title takes you deep into the intricacies of managing your Apple ID,
a topic which has now become so complex that it has an etire 100+ page book
devoted to it.

Sorry to sound like an advert, but I’ve just had a quick look in my copy and
found that the questions you area asking are pretty well covered.
