UPDATED ON: Monday, April 20, 2009 13:58 Mecca time, 10:58 GMT Indonesia's culture of corruption Watch part two Indonesia has long struggled with corruption. It is a practice that permeates every level of society from the judiciary, to the parliament, to business, to life on the street. But now, the Indonesian government is making an effort to clean up its political and economic systems and be an example to the rest of Asia. In the last few months, the corruption eradication commission, better known as KPK, has made several high profile arrests in their anti-graft investigations. Indonesia has also moved up Transparency International's corruption index from 143 to 126. But some critics question if KPK's efforts are getting to the root of a widespread problem. Is it possible to truly eradicate the culture of corruption? Host Fauziah Ibrahim is joined by Angelina Sondakh, Indonesian Government MP; Rezki Sri Wibowo from Transparency International Indonesia; and also by Dr. Eduardo Araral, from the Lee Kuan Yew school of public policy. This episode of 101 East aired from Thursday, January 29, 2009. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
