July 16, 2009 MP warns of tensions between Ahmadinejad, parliament A senior Iranian lawmaker says tension between Parliament and the Ahmadinejad government will be heightened if Cabinet nominees are given a vote of no confidence. "If competent people are introduced to Parliament as the new government's ministers, we will give them a vote of confidence," Deputy Head of the Parliament (Majlis) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Hossein Sobhani-Nia, told ILNA news agency on Wednesday. "But if they are inept, Parliament might give them a vote of no confidence which will increase tensions," he added. Sobhani-Nia further pointed out that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is expected to introduce his nominees in early August. "The people have higher expectations from the next government," he explained, adding that a more powerful administration would win the support of Iranian lawmakers as well as the nation. "One-third of the current ministers should be changed so that suitable ministers are elected to meet the needs of the executive branch." President Ahmadinejad is set to take the oath of office for a second time in early August. However, his inauguration would only be held after he is confirmed by Leader of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
