The patience that a society needs to endure and try and try agains to make the bums to honest citizen is demanding, but the other way of dealing with the problem leads in most countrys to caos. In the poor countrys of africa no social programs excist. There the agenda of the rich and powerful is allowed to work in full freedom. The only way to survive for those that don't have friends and relatives to help is starvation or illigal activity. You don't really want the USA to go down that path? If not there has to be a ballance.

I have to disagree. In this country, if you are willing you can work hard and make as good a life as you want. Everyone makes choices. I chose not to stay married after my children were grown. If I had stayed married I would have a much easier life financially, but I would have to live with a man that I frankly could hardly stand to look at another day. I choose to leave. I could have made him sell our house and give me half the money. I chose not to. I could have made him give me part of his pension. He can retire at 55 from his civil service job at 80% of his pay. I just wanted to get away. He did not want me to go. So I did not think it was fair to leave AND take his money. Though I worked most of our marriage I did not get more than a year of college and am going to school again and working now. I am willing to live with my choices. But I do not ask any one to pay for my choices and I do not want to pay for some bum too lazy to work, or illegal immigrants or drug addicts or alcoholics who made bad choices. If I didn't pay so much in taxes because I am single with no small children, I would be able to live a little better. But there are so many people living off the government, it keeps my taxes high. Not to mention taxes on gas, the phone the lights et. I am not asking for anything from someone else. I just want to keep more of what I WORK FOR. Janice
