OR Je-Zeus had a surfboard.  Para-sails?  The fellow might've lifted up 
part of his skirt (discreetly, of course!) and caught a breeze.  How 
about a wind-kite with hemp twine-rope attached and 'cruised along' on a 
pair of water skis.  The dude was a carpenter (stone mason) by trade, 
and was (assuming on my part) pretty good with waterproofing wood and 
"whittled" some wood into a pair of skis...?

OR... he could have have hitched a ride with the Loch Ness Monster 
"Nessie"... <smile>
