UPDATE: Reverting the machine to using Ruby 1.9.1 clears up the problem.
Sad, because I was hoping to be able to continue to move to using Watir-webdriver more and more, as it matures, but Watir-webdriver has issues with Ruby 1.9.1. -- Before posting, please read http://watir.com/support.
