Robbie, I looked at those photos at the Surry Arts Council site, and
I am interested in learning more about the painting of Betty Lynn
that was unveiled at Mayberry Days. Can you or anyone else provide
some information about that? I don't recall anyone mentioning
anything about it. It looked beautiful, and the artist is obviously
quite talented. Was it commissioned, or did the artist simply want
to do it? What was Miss Lynn's reaction to it?

Thanks,
Thelma Lou
(Janet)

Hi Janet,

Perhaps Allan and/or Jeff might know more about this, but Betty Lynn
was the guest of honor for Mayberry Days and Grand Marshall for the
parade. The portrait was presented to her as a complete surprise near
the conclusion of the Mayor's Proclamation (the official "start" for
Mayberry Days) at which she was also given her second key to the
city. The name of the talented artist escapes me, but he sure got an
appreciative kiss from our "Thelma Lou!" She was quite thrilled to be
honored in her new hometown and gave a tearful thank you to all her
fans. I believe the portrait will join a similar portrait of Andy
downstairs at the Andy Griffith Playhouse for everyone to see. As
Barn would say, "It was BIG!!"
