First: This daily newsletter is the highlight of my day.

Second I love getting to hear about such wonderful folks as you all
through this letter.

Third, My funniest episode is the Convicts at Large, although it is very
hard to choose. I laughed out loud just thinking of everyone's
favorites, like Mountain Wedding and My Fair Ernest T, and Barney's
Sidecar (Aunt Bee's exasperation with Barney and his "siccle": "I once
saw a World War II movie where the resistance put a wire across the road
about so high, and when the Nazis came roaring through on their
motorcycles, [hand across throat] Phphphtttt!).

And Goober and the Art of Love and the Fun Girls episodes ("Hello Doll"
is immortal).

But I have been laughing about Floyd calling Barney "Al" like the lady
convicts do, and calling out "We're home." so cheerily, and waving that
banana to the music, and his evident enjoyment of their dancing, and his
utter lack of comprehension of their situation, capped off by his saying
that "If those hamburgers burn I won't be responsible."

One of my books about the show quotes one of the other actors as saying
about Floyd/ Howard McNear, "Oh, he was a sweet, sweet man." That comes
through so clearly in this episode.

2nd place is the Haunted House. "Any old bums down there! I didn't
think so!" When both Barney and Gomer stand so close to Any and then
lean down with him when he picks up the baseball, it cracks me up every
time. "Well, I have fear itself!"

Dexter Bell
Centerville, Utah

"Well what did Calvin Coolidge say?"
"I'll take this to the highest court in the land."
"Yes he did, Andy. Look at his face! Guilty!!"
"Well, Andy, I'm thinking about buying this car."

( Pardon my long entry today).
