April, I'm glad you mentioned that, my husband and I were laughing when we
noticed Andy with his pants rolled up for the first time watching the new
DVDs.
Ya sure do notice a lot of new things in those new DVDs don't ya. They're
goooooood!!!
I also wanted to share a little Mayberry moment with all of you. I was
talking to my dad the other day and he was telling me about something and
that it was big... really big. So I asked him "so are you trying to tell me
that there's only one word for it?" He said " IT'S BIG!!!"
We both of course then started laughing.
Have a Mayberry kind of day!!!

It didn't seem like Don Knotts said much, however everyone seemed to be saying
how much they appreciated him and his performance as Barney. When he did speak
it was to acknowledge what someone said or to compliment someone in return. He
kinda had that humble Barney look at one point when someone paid him a
compliment. Maybe he's the type who has trouble being bragged on.
It really gets me the way Andy looks as he's leaving the set. He sighs as if
he'd like to go back and do it all over again, just like we'd like it if they
did.

Was that reunion show a rerun from last year? I didn't watch it, but I
thought it was a rerun. Don't tell me I missed a new one!?!

I received Jim Nabors' second LP 'Jim Nabors Sings Love Me With All Your
Heart' for a Christmas present. This LP was produced right after 'Shazam!' Jim
Nabors' staple song 'The Impossible Dream' is included. More interesting to me
than the music are the liner notes. They are a source of a little 'Gomer Pyle
USMC' technical history.
"Turn left off Washington Boulevard, a sort of quasi-used-car lot in Culver
City, Los Angeles, and drive down a residential street, punctuated block by
block with studio sound stages. There you'll find a friendly studio cop
guarding a tiny United States Marine Corps base. Surrounded by a cyclone fence,
it
consists of a half dozen or so Quonset-type barracks separated by gravel walks
marked with whitewashed rocks. Shazam! It's the exterior set for the Gomer
Pyle, U.S.M.C. television series.
"A hundred feet from the barracks, a crowd of technicians and an impressive
array of filming equipment had formed a semicircle around Pyle--certainly the
world's most naive serviceman --and a salesman about to sell him a "17-jewel
watch, priced to sell at $12.95."
"The scene was shot eight times before the director was satisfied. Then,
Jim Nabors again became Jim Nabors."
It goes on to quote Jim as saying "I just switch Gomer off and on" and " .
. .most of my serious singing was done in the shower until this offer
(Columbia Records deal) came along.
Gomer's work day began by rising at 5:00 a.m. and reporting to the set or
location at 7:00 a.m. The shooting or rehearsals lasted until 5:00 or 6:00 p.m.
It's makes you wonder how many times filming exteriors at Forty Acres
occurred simultaneously with filming an episode of TAGS.
P.S. Mayberry may have been a one horse town, BUT that horse (Dolly) also
went to Camp Henderson.

Starting with the first episode Andy was always saying how Aunt Bea raised him
growing up.Where were his Mom and Dad? Were they both deceased? Because I dont
ever recall them ever talking about Andy's Mom and Dad on the Show

>>>Don Knotts doesn't say FIVE WORDS throughout the entire show! And
when he did
speak, it was only one or maybe two words, like 'absolutely', or 'that's
right'. Surely the producers noticed this and perhaps tried to correct
it. I wonder what gives. I literally don't think he said a single
sentence the entire show. pb/<<<<
Well PB, with the help of one of today's electronal marvels...A VCR, I
must say that you must have dozed off in the desk chair like good ole
Barney. Looking at the special again, I stopped counting at six times
Don said something more than 3 or 4 word sentences. (there's the jail,
it sure did etc.)
Don's comments include:
"That didn't work to well did it?" (responding to Ron Howard
remembering slingshot lesson)
"I used to say that I couldn't wait to get up in the morning and go to
work on this show, and I really meant it"
"But Andy and I seemed to fall right it rhythm with each other's timing"
" I could see in Andy's eyes that he was trying to keep from laughing"
"The time I let you (Ron) hit me in the stomach. Barney thought nothing
could hurt him and then Pow! Hit me pretty good too"
"Working all those seasons with Andy as a little fella, you must have a
learned an awful lot."
This dialogue all took place before Jim Nabors came in, so maybe you
woke up then. He was somewhat quiet after that.
One thing that someone noted when it first aired, I caught this time.
Don began to walk out to door at the end, not knowing that the others
were going to embrace. It was a bit awkward, but not that noticeable.
