It's been mentioned before how people in Mayberry have seemingly changed
names/identities frequently and without explanation. I did some bucket
thinking and came up with what I call the Patty/Cathy theory. In a small town
like Mayberry there are naturally many people who are related closely and
distantly. So there's bound to be the occasional set of identical cousins such
as Goober Pyle/Goober Beasley, Juanita Pike/Lydia Crosswaith, Floyd
Lawson/Floyd Colby, and triplets Clara Edwards/Clara Johnson/Bertha Johnson.
That's why no one bats an eye when they see someone who looks like someone
else, but has a different name. Just another cousin or relative, nothing to
see here, go back to your homes or places of business.
