All this talk about placing coins on the railroad track is actually quite dangerous. I have been involved with railroading most of my life. I have been involved with rail fan trips, safety meeting etc, etc. There have been many reports of people being injured with flying coins on the tracks. What happens is that if the steel wheels pinch the coin just right, it can fly out at the speed of a bullet . Several people have been struck with these coins. This explains why most of the coins can not be found after the train passes. Add to that, you are on private property and the railroad does not want you to put anything on their tracks. I hate to be a killjoy, but I would not like to see any of our TAGS folks get hurt or anyone else for that matter. If you really need a flat coin, do it with a hammer.
