Barney was in plain clothes in "The Cave Rescue." Also, he was in a black suit when he rode the horse east to west..... In Mayberry Goes Hollywood, he is in a "Smokey the Bear" costume. He dressed as Mrs. McGruder's cousin and tried to rob the bank, and he dressed as a little old lady in "The Bookie Barber.." Also, he dressed as Santa Claus in the Christmas Episode...
He dressed in a different outfit once in the episode whre he visits from Raleigh too. I think there are a few times where he wears his sporty shirt and hat......When he vistited Andy during the dinner that Malcolm served, he was in a different outfit too. I think there are numbers of times he wore something other than his uniform or salt and pepper.....These just come to mind right away......
