Andy didn't shoot a pistol, but he picked one up from the top of the hutch when Luke Comstock was coming to his house. Also when Mayor Stoner complains that Andy doesn't wear a gun and Barney doesn't have bullets, Andy says he'll get a gun and give Barney bullets. Then they'd both shoot at whatever criminal the Mayor was worried about.
