Thelma Lou (Janet), you're right, down here in Dixie we do use the word cousin pretty loosely. If there's even a hint two folks might be related (say their grandparents were all from the same county) there's a good chance those two will jokingly call each other cousin. Jimmy, way down in Alabama.
