For a couple of reasons, I think we have the wrong month. George Washington's birthday is not February 21, but rather February 22. But that isn't the only thing. We know that the boys were wearing summer clothing. I can only guess that it was July. Why??? Because July 12 is National Pecan Pie Day and no Southerner is going to miss Pecan Pie Day. July 21? Why it's National Tug-of-War Tournament Day, and once the Darlings get to town, they'll team up with Rafe Hollister and take on all comers.
I think if you check, Aunt Bee's calendar has May 13 and November 14 circled. May 13 is, of course, National Apple Pie and who can forget that November 14 is National Pickle Day. Yeah, boy.
