I am a constant reader and always have been. Even when I was young I read
all those childish classics. I read over 100 books every year. This means
frequent trips to the library. Today was one such day, and was I ever
lucky. While browsing through the shelves I came across a copy of the book
Barney was reading while trying to ward off Henry Bennett's jinx. The book
is "Signs, Omens, Portents, and Charms to Ward off Bad Luck". Catchy
little title, isn't it? I didn't even know the library had a copy. Well
to make a long story longer, I wrote down some of the important things to
help ward off bad luck or bring good luck and thought I would share them
with you. Did you know that:

Sleeping on your back causes nightmares. ( Here I thought it was the
moonshine that gave Otis his nightmares )

If a broom swept your feet you must spit on it or you won't get married. (
Not sure if you should spit on the broom or your feet.)

Eating and reading at the same time can give you liver cancer. ( Oh oh, I
am really in deep trouble.)

Kissing a child when they are sleeping will cause them to be mean. ( Guess
that explains a lot of my behavior.)

If you suspect a person as the cause of evil eye, bring some sand or earth
on which the person has set foot. Circle
this thrice over the victim. Allow the victim to spit on this sand
thrice. Add red chilies with this and throw it in the fire.
This will eliminate the evil eye. ( I think it would be easier to rub the
head of a redhead.)

And finally, my favorite.

If you secretly put your toe nail clippings in a glass of lemonade and make
someone drink it, the person will fall in\
love with you. ( I always wondered why Linda insisted I drink her homemade
lemonade on our first date.)
