Back in the days when all cars had wide bench seats, drivers were taught to slide across and get out on the passenger side after parking on the street. That way, they didn't risk causing an accident by opening the driver's side car door right when another car was coming up behind them, or worse, stepping into the path of an oncoming car. They even had a little rhyme to help folks remember, which went "right side: safe side, left side: suicide." It's likely that since Andy and Barney were lawmen (bravest you ever did see), the creators of The Show were extra-careful not to show them operating their car in an unsafe manner.
Of course, nobody gets out of the car like that today, since most cars don't have that kind of front seat. Paul Mulik Sent from my iPhone _______________________________________________ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
