Dan, While I think your answers are right on and obviously took a lot of trained noticing, you overlooked the most obvious: Allan Newsome was neither seen nor mentioned in 159 episodes--coincidentally, exactly the same number as the number of black-and-white episodes! (Though I won't go so far as to limit his lack of involvement only to b&w episodes.)
