Ken, thanks for the reminder of the simpler Christmas times of the old days.  I 
miss the homemade cookies at Christmas as well.  My mother would make what 
seemed like thousands to give to neighbors as gifts.  When the baking was going 
on the only cookies that my sister and I could get while still warm were the 
ones that were just burnt enough to miss the cut.  This caused my sister and I 
to be a little devious.  When a batch of our favorites were in the oven, we'd 
watch the wind-up timer my mother had set.  With about 1 minute to go, we'd go 
to the farthest part of the house and raise quite a commotion.  While my mother 
was investigating, those cookies would be burnt just enough for our enjoyment.  
To this day, I still like cookies burnt around the edges.
