>>>Here's a new trivia question for your potential amusement. There are many,
>>>many instances of folks playing musical instruments in or near Mayberry. The
>>>challenge is to name all of the PERCUSSION instruments we see on TAGS.<<<
The first thing that comes to my mind is "The Mayberry Band" episode. In the
beginning, the one guy (forget his name) was using drum sticks to beat out
rhythm on a chair. And Barney had his cymbals. Then actual drums were used
when the band marched and played on the street.
In "Opie's Group" from season eight, there was a drummer in Opie's band The
Sound Committee.
There was a small band, including a drummer, on hand to welcome Thomas A. Moody
in "Guest of Honor."
In "Mountain Wedding," Ernest T. bangs out "Old Aunt Mariah" on a gas can.
Barney plays the bongos in "Three's a Crowd."
At the carnival in "Banjo Playing Deputy," Jerry Miller simultaneously played
his banjo, a kazoo or something, and--for percussion--a bass drum, cymbals, a
cow bell, and a triangle.
Both reunion episodes, "Class Reunion" and "The Return of Barney Fife," had
dance bands with drums.
I can't remember if there is a live band with drums in "Look Paw, I'm Dancing"
or if they danced to recorded music.
In "The Gypsies," the daughter gypsy used a tambourine when the family played
music.
There was a drummer backing up Keevy Hazelton when he rehearsed and taped his
TV show. (That's the first band I've seen with one drum set and four guitars!)
There was a live band, which surely included a drummer, in "The Fun Girls"
episode.
That's all I can think of right now.
