I think that it makes perfect sense that Andy and Howard stayed over night in Raleigh. After a successful performance, Andy and Howard went out to celebrate and probably had a few beers at a local lounge or bar. With Mayberry being a dry county and all... it was a perfect opportunity for them to celebrate without all the Mayberry gossip. Andy and Howard, being respectable and responsible members of the community decided it would be wise and prudent not to drive home and stayed over night. It is also possible that Colonel Tim’s Talent Show puts up all the performers as a perk for appearing on their program. Seems like a win, win to me.
