"Able" and "baker" were the old military phonetics for the letters 'A' and 'B'. During a period of the late 60s, some agencies used "adam" for the letter 'A' (as in "Adam-12"). The phonetic alphabet has changed over the decades and 'A' and 'B' are now "alpha" and "bravo"; "charlie" remains as the phonetic 'C'.
