The producers of Gunsmoke did not hire James Arness to be Matt Dillion before interviewing others for the part, including Raymond Burr and....Denver Pyle! so instead of being known as Brisco, he might have been known as Matt!! Word it, they chose Jim over the rest was because he was better looking!
