To add to "Welford"'s sighting of Briscoe Darling on "Gunsmoke", the other night I was watching an episode of Gomer Pyle and sure enough, there was Denver Pyle playing a simple farmer (Titus Purcell) who owned some land that the Marine base was built on. Good episode. The character was similar to Bricoe Darling, although not quite as "rustic".
