Over the years the show ran, you could almost say that Andy Griffith played three separate Sheriff Taylor characters. There was the jovial country boy from Season One, the voice of reason in Seasons 2-4, and a bit more serious in Seasons 5-8. Obviously there is some overlap in the evolution of the three. I see a lot of similarities between the 5th season and the color years, as many of the showrunners had departed TAGS for Gomer Pyle, USMC.
