I hate to burst everyone's bubble here, but the "T" didn't stand for anything. TAGS writer Everett Greenbaum’s brother worked for a movie titles producer named Saul Bass. On the television show "Mr. Peepers," writers Jim Fritzell and Everett called the football coach Frank T. Whip. That’s where the “T” came from. This was from Neal Brower’s book "The Essential Mayberry," page 326, which is a must for all Mayberry fans.
Mr. Schwamp ------------------------------------------- > We all know and love Ernest T Bass. NOW....lets get it going....Just what did > the T stand for in his name? Was his middle name just T, or was it Theodore, > or Thomas, what is your idea of a middle name for Ernest T. Bass? > I done opened a whole new keg of worms now!
