On this same note, I recently got an email from a long lost friend with whom I've not spoken in many years. The nature of his email made me believe that all was not well with him, and he then failed to respond to any of me replies for several weeks.
I wanted to call him, but had no idea what part of the country he lived in. He has a very common name, so a general search in www.qwestdex.com across the nation returned hundreds of results. The full header of his email, which was a yahoo address, contained his IP address from his original ISP. A "Who Is" search at www.Arin.net, a site that will tell you to whom an IP addresses belongs, revealed that his was from a branch of a nationwide broadband provider operating in Ohio.
