Yes, it is still possible that DSL has port 80 blocked but dial-up doesn't.
They go through different routers and ISPs traditionally haven't worried
about people running web servers on dial-up modems.

If your computer is connected to the DSL line via a router and you only want
to be able to use Apache to test you might be able to get around it by
putting in the local ip address for the computer to use for testing or by
using the loop back address. What happens if you type in http://localhost?
Or http://127.0.0.1? 

Another option might be to configure Apache to use a different port number.

connection with my notebook and ran Apache fine.  Then, I disconnected DSL
