That's one of the nice features of Outlook 2003, you can set it to disable
picture download. And if you want to selectively enable it for individual
pictures or messages.

Kind of interesting to see what messages have "hidden" pictures.

no, leave preview on, just turn off html messages

Tools > Options > Read > check Read all messages in plain text

it's not just scripting you have to worry about

it's images

yes, images

reading all messages in plain text prevents downloading "web bugs"

these are little 1-pixel images buried inside an html message which let the
spammer's server know that you previewed the message, i.e. the email address
is valid
