  It's really going to depend on how much non-cart oriented
information the site will include.  Is the shopping cart part of a
larger site, or is the whole site geared to sell?  If the latter, then
you'd likely want to create the site through the catalog and just
customize the template.  If the former, then I'd say you should create
the non-cart portions of the site, create a template for the cart that
matches the rest of the site and tie them in together.

  Either way, the services of a good web *designer* (namely, you) are
going to be a necessity.  Assess the projects requirements, analyze
Zen Cart's capabilities and then get in touch with the osCommerce
developer you'll be working with and ask them what they'll need from
you.  Having already put some thought into it, you'll then be able to
work out what you'll need to do to fullfill your portion of the site
:)
