I think I have gathered most of that now, but I know that the re-thinking process for me needs to clutch at the familiar to learn the new! With poetry <pre> may remain the better bet, but this white-space alternative might be a handy substiutute or extra arrow in the quiver. I have already taken on board the difference between tables and css layout (of course with tables it is still easier to see what you're doing :-() The reminder about lists for links, for example, is well taken and will be in the new design.
