OK, self-knowing being the in thing, I have got as far as realising that the problem is in some way to do with HDD cache (since I have a similar problem with Photoshop). According to the visual Xp Defrag seems not to create great chunks of cacheable area in 'C', so although there may be a lot of free space it is fragmented and that upsets Photoshop; is there the same cache problem for A-Reader, and if so where does one do the redirect for the scratch disk.
